If you travel South on Interstate 81 in central Pennsylvania and get off on exit 65, you will come to the Enola ramp that leads you to Central Penn College. The college is where head coach Robert Stern leads his baseball team, the Central Penn Knights, towards success.
Stern, known by his team as Coach Stern, has raked up 61 wins and 56 losses during his 5 years at the college. Stern is known to guide the college’s young adult athletes with passion and firmness.
Coach Stern cares about his players but maintains an assertive coaching style on the field, as he expresses with much intention. When Stern is asked what he would like people to know about him, he replies, “I want parents to know that I care about these student-athletes, on and off the field.” It is evident that Stern is humble as a head coach and is passionate about his players. The athletes that Stern oversees include players Ryan Steven, Hunter Finkey, and Zach Boyer, and a recruiting class that is growing immensely.
Coach Stern coaches a team of young men who are just as good academically as they are athletic. For the first time in school history, 12 baseball players made it on the dean’s list. The students that attained this amazing accomplishment are Zach Boyer (a two-time academic all-American), Adam Hoover, JeFrandy Montero, Dalton Killer, Nick Fulton, Zach Haefner, Ryan Stevens, Bryan Rodriguez, Colten Zerby, Owen Zell, Dassir Hayes, and Blake Myers. This achievement speaks volumes of Coach Stern’s, and the student’s hard work and dedication. Stern takes great pride in the academic pursuit of his athletes.
Robert Stern’s level of leadership and coaching is refreshing. Stern did not have the benefit of attending college but now has the privilege of leading a team of athletes through their college experience in such a vital way. Coach Stern cares, and the future of baseball at Central Penn College is brighter because of it.
