The people of Lower Paxton Township have spoken loud and clear. Pamela Thompson was elected to serve on the township’s supervisory board, setting history in the process. She will be the first African American and first woman to hold this elected office. Thompson was also listed as obtaining the most significant votes in the November election cycle. Pamela Thompson is in the will of the voters, and after meeting with her, she is honored and ready to serve.
Thompson has a sweet and kind spirit. I was taken aback by how politely she approached things. She exudes old-school qualities and has a heart of gold. She is a lawyer, educator, foster mom, and now a township supervisor. When I met with Ms. Thompson, she spoke quietly but confidently about her upcoming role. The residents of Lower Paxton can expect that she will always be firm and fair as she enters her new position as the ONLY Democrat on the board. Thompson’s life has been dedicated to problem-solving, and she promises to keep that quality in mind as she makes decisions. Thompson expresses complete gratitude for those who voted her in and believes that the residents of Lower Paxton will not be ashamed of their choice.
Thompson’s political experience is not extensive, but she grew up watching her father serve on the Harrisburg City Council, leading her to run for a Magisterial position in 2021. Though Thompson was defeated in that race, she gained much knowledge. When Thompson decided to run for the township supervisor position, she contacted Safronia Perry, a member of the Carlisle Borough Council, to head her campaign. Together, they made history! Ms. Thompson and her team went on to get the most votes on the ballot. As a first-time campaign manager, Ms. Perry found this an accomplishment. Perry was excited to have her place alongside Pamela Thompson as a woman working to promote and uplift women entering the political arena. It is safe to say this will not be Perry’s last campaign manager opportunity.
On January 2nd, the newly elected township supervisor will be sworn in at the Lower Paxton Township building. Pamela Thompson has an agenda and looks forward to working alongside her fellow supervisors to improve the township. Several residents believe Thompson is up for the task. Thompson wants to make those who believe in her proud and prove to her voters that she was a wise choice.
