Next Level Talent : Tyshawn Russell

Tyshawn Russell will be the next Bishop McDevitt star to excel at the next level. With six former Bishop McDevitt graduates entering college and becoming NFL players, it’s time to introduce the seventh, Tyshawn Russell.

If anyone needs further evidence of Tyshawn’s capabilities, look at his production in the last game of his high school career. Tyshawn accomplished four catches for 157 yards and four touchdowns in this game, ending in a championship-winning game. If that’s a glimpse of what the University of South Carolina will be getting from this freshman, the SEC conference better be on notice.

The first Bishop McDevitt Crusader to make it to the top level of the football world was Larry Conjar in 1967 when the Cleveland Browns drafted him. The second was Ricky Waters, who won an NFL Super Bowl with the S.F. 49ers. Third, there was LeRon McCoy, who the Arizona Cardinals drafted. After McCoy was Jamie Thomas, who the Colts drafted. Aaron Berry is next, signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Lions. Then there was LeSean McCoy, a standout for the home-state Philadelphia Eagles. These six McDevitt alumni all had their dreams of playing in the NFL come true. I believe Tyshawn Russell will be the seventh McDevitt graduate to reach his dream of playing in the NFL.

Tyshawn Russell is a perfect blend of talent and skill. Tyshawn’s football I.Q. is amazingly well-placed; he can transition from high school to college and is primed for Sunday football. Tyshawn’s parents have groomed him for this moment. He is a well-mannered young man who is ready to be coached. Tyshawn’s route-running is the key to his success. He has good hands and sneaky speed, making him a threat to any defense. The most crucial thing in Tyshawn Russell’s arsenal is his love of the game. I am confident that he can handle the pressure of the SEC conference, which includes perineal powerhouses like Alabama and Georgia. South Carolina coach Shane Beamer will have a chance to compete with the rest of the conference, and Tyshawn Russell will be a major addition to the offense.
